Los Rios faculty fight for better leave benefits
Sara Smith says she has a simple request. “We should be treated like human beings,” says Smith, a history professor at American River College. “We should have more humane policies that allow us to take paid time off to care for the people we love most in the world without being distracted, without having to work through the pain.”

Sacramento native Tyre Nichols gone, but not forgotten
A home going celebration for Tyre Nichols in his hometown of Sacramento brought together friends and family on Feb. 4 at Sac Ramp Skate Shop to honor the 29-year-old, who died after being assaulted by five police officers in Memphis in January.

Man robbed at Light Rail station near City College
A man was robbed on Friday, Nov. 18 between 1:50 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. just before entering the Light Rail station near City College, according to a crime alert issued by the Los Rios Police Department.

Although the midterm elections on Nov. 8 could change political power at a national level, many City College students were still not motivated to vote in this election. For others, however, a few key issues compelled them to cast a ballot.

Los Rios Board of Trustees vote to end the district's COVID-19 vaccination requirement
On Oct. 19, 2022 the Los Rios Board of Trustees voted to end the districtwide COVID-19 vaccination requirement for both students and employees according to a news update from Los Rios administration. Although the process of putting this decision into action has already begun, the current vaccine requirement is still in place.

City College receives $1 million endowment for Gregory Kondos gallery
City College’s Gregory Kondos Gallery has just been given a $1 million endowment by Christopher and Dana Daubert. Christopher had worked at City College for 23 years as an art professor, and was the volunteer director of the campus art gallery from 1997 to 2009.
